My body has decided to do it's own thing

Yesterday, after my appointment with Dr. Brooke, I know it is normal to spot sometimes.  So, I was not alarmed when that happened in the evening time.  However, at 4:30 a.m. my body started cramping more and more and the blood is getting heavier.  For now, I am naturally passing this and do not forsee a problem with it.  This will probably take a few days, so I am down for now.  I had originally planned a procedure that was to take place on Monday.  But, that will not be necessary.  In any event, apparently a natural elimination process is better for conception later on.  Since a surgical one would completely scrape the uterus lining preventing conception without it.  And keep in mind that we do not plan on trying anything for awhile anyways.  I still feel it will be more likely to happen because my body decided to kick in and take over, rather than a surgery.  That is when we decide to try again.

This is where I am as of 8/25 and as long as my body is continuing to do what it is doing, I should be completely fine.  BTW, today is Dean's birthday - not what I had in mind to give him...we had plans to go out to dinner to the Swamp House in our area.  Thankfully, Mom and Dad will still come here and she plans to make dinner.  So, that will be nice.  Dean deserves it!  I feel bad, but there is nothing much else that I can do about it.

Take Care & God Bless...will keep you posted if anything changes.

Spoke to the Midwife

Today I had an appointment with Dr. Dean...lol - her name is Brooke Dean.  They are scheduling me for a DNC on Monday and I should only miss a couple of days of work.  Donna, my mother in law, is gracious enough to set that time aside and take care of me.  So, it is not like I am looking forward to it.  But, it should go very smoothly and not be too complicated.  Once that is completed we will need to wait for at least 3 months before we try again.  Also, she told me to continue to take my prenatal vitamins to build my folic acid up for when it happens again.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Got the Results

Well on Tuesday, after the initial ultrasound, I was ushered to have my blood taken to check my HCG levels.  HCG levels are the hormones in your blood which should increase two fold every day if you are pregnant.  So, on Tuesday my levels were at 17,000 and I went back on Thursday to check and they had decreased to 13,000.  This is your bodies way of telling you that you are no longer going to be pregnant.

This means one of two things, my body will naturally eliminate any signs of conception - which has not taken place whatsoever.  The alternative is called a DNC, basically when they surgically remove any signs of conception.  I have another appointment on Wednesday to speak with the midwife and at that time I will decide what I want to do, unless of course my body decides to do something first.

Unfortunately God did not have plans for us to have a baby this time.  We are okay with that, because we know that we are going to continue to try.  It is not fun, but miscarriages at this stage in pregnancy are a 1 in 4 chance.  Rest assured that the next time we conceive, I will not be letting anyone know until we at least reach the 12 week mark.  That happens to be a monumental time during the fetus' development and will let us know if it will be viable or not.

8-16-2011 1st Ultrasound today

Went to my 1st ultrasound, was really excited and anticipated seeing the little heartbeat and all the normal things that you would expect.  However, I was informed that my ultrasound was abnormal and a heartbeat could not be found at this stage.  We are hoping it is because we have the dates wrong.  Statistics on the other hand state that 1 in 4 pregnancies in this stage are prone for miscarriage.  We are not sure what to expect, hope for the best and expect the worst, I guess.  I had a blood test to check my levels and go back on Thursday to see if any indication of progress.

So, for now, Prayers and thoughts welcome - but just know that I know that God had a plan for me all the while and everything does happen for a reason.  It is NOT because I have done anything that would harm the potential growth of my unborn child.  Will let ya'll know.

1st Dr.'s Appt

Today Dean & I went to the doctor together.  I think it is great that he wants to be so interactive with that.  They just confirmed that I am in fact pregnant, about 7 weeks and that the baby will be here sometime around the end of March.  I do plan to start taking a weekly photograph and posting the progress of my growth, esp for my family who are not close enough to witness in person.  I look forward to this experience and know it is going to fly by so quick.  Just trying to enjoy it to the fullest!  :-)

Oh, and the Dr's office gave me this huge bag of stuff - I am not sure if I should thank them or give it back to get rid of the clutter?!  I am grateful for sure, but still unsure of what is going on in there, it is huge!  LOL

You Have Matched with a Midwife!

Your overall health and preferences in prenatal care and childbirth match you with a midwife.

Your responses indicate that you seek individualized, specialized care. Midwives are recognized for their ability to partner with and listen to a woman and to help her understand her choices for care. The American College of Nurse-Midwives has members who are certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) and certified midwives (CMs). Ninety-seven percent of these midwives attend births in hospitals, and some will deliver at birth centers or homes.

Midwives are watchful guardians during pregnancy and birth and practice judicious use of medical interventions only when necessary. In fact, research shows low-risk women who use midwives are more likely than women who use physicians to have a safe and healthy birth for themselves and their babies; in addition, women using midwives are less likely to undergo an induction of labor, cesarean, or episiotomy. CNMs and CMs do vary in the types of patients they will accept, due to health status. Still, don’t make any assumptions that you are too “high risk.” Call your local midwives to discuss your options.

CNMs and CMs provide access to a host of pain relief options, including epidural, massage, relaxation, and laboring in a tub. Midwives help women understand their choices in health care and empower them to make informed decisions.

Midwives know that each woman has unique health care needs and requires individual attention. Prenatal appointments with midwives tend to be longer than those with physicians, and midwives also tend to spend more time by a woman’s side in labor – supporting her and watching for any health concerns.

Starting to notice a couple things...

Well, I know it is way to early to see much of anything.  However, I have gone up a cup size and my tummy has somewhat of a pooch.  So, that is all I have today.

I am planning to make an appt for next week, as most Dr.'s do not want to see you before 6-8 weeks anyways.  I should be able to find out more exactly what is going on then.  But, according to my calculations I should be in about the 5th week.

One more thing, picked up the book "What to Expect When You are Expecting"  last night and a handy dandy calendar to keep all of my appointments.

Just found out...

I am not 100% positive from the Dr.'s yet, but two pregnancy tests came back positive.  So, on July 22, 2011 Dean & my life will change forever.  We are ecstatic to be parents and look forward to this journey.  I am going to make an appt this wk and verify everything that my body is telling me.  As I find out information, I will update.

As happy as we are, we are keeping this between family and extremely close friends, so please no posts to FB - post here.

April Fool's Day

Today is supposed to be one of those days where we play pranks on one another.  I don't have anything up my sleeve.  Just working on life in general.  Hope everyone enjoys this beautiful day, so glad for the rain to let up and let the sun shine down.  Everything outside looks so much greener!
